Delia Sherman & I will be teaching the final two weeks of the Clarion Writers' Workshop this coming summer, 2007. We just got exciting news from the Clarion Foundation: the workshop is moving from Lansing, Michigan to San Diego! For details on that and the coming year's instructors (and How to Apply), click here. (We are especially pleased about the move for the selfish reason that the following Friday we're due in Berkeley to be Guests of Honor at Mythcon 38 - and this way we don't have to fly cross-country twice to make our commitments! Clarion is well known for its capacity to exhaust instructors as well as students. For the time between Clarion & Mythcon, the word spa has actually been uttered for the first time in the Kushner/Sherman household. Any suggestions? A tiny shack on Big Sur is also accceptable.)

Also, the Clarion Auction is now up and running. Bantam donated an Advance Reading Copy of The Privilege of the Sword.. There aren't that many of these around, so bid high! You know you want to.

With a little advance planning, you could run away for a quiet vacation for the few days in between ... perhaps with yours truly and [livejournal.com profile] alanbostick? Like cabins at Big Sur, or something along those lines?

Ee, San Diego!
If only I could, you know, *finish* anything I start to write. Sigh.

I've heard good things about Costanoa:

For a few weeks, plain ordinary copies of The Privilege of the Sword were damned scare in NYC. I finally found a copy at Coliseum Books on 42nd St, told them to get more, and read it over the weekend. All the usual superlatives apply, and also: this one was more warm and perhaps more kind to its characters. Benevolent? With a few exceptions. *Blissful sigh*.

We were just at Coliseum today! They said they had more on order. Delia signed a bunch of CHANGELINGs, which were satisfyingly displayed up front.

I am so glad you liked Privilege!

If you're going to do Big Sur, DO do Ventana Inn & Spa (http://www.ventanainn.com/).

It's marvelous, marvelous, marvelous.

And pretty darned good, too. ;o)

At the very least, go to dinner. Just make your reservation for a sunset dinner with an ocean view.

It's worth the money, trust me.

(so's the bread, BTW, so if you can't get the sunset view, at least the bread will be pure bliss)

I usually just camp or stay in one of the rustic park cabins but I always stop and eat at Nepenthe (http://www.nepenthebigsur.com/). The view is breath-taking and the food is good too.

Congratulations on teaching! Your students will be lucky. :)

I wish I could attend your KGB reading next week, but unfortunately, I have an exam that day. Maybe next time you're in NYC, I can say hello.
